The Brooklyn Hospital Center-Mount Sinai Heart Comprehensive Cardiac Care Program

The Brooklyn Hospital Center-Mount Sinai Heart Comprehensive Cardiac Care Program, launched in the summer of 2017, offers all-inclusive cardiac care to patients in the Downtown Brooklyn area. This partnership allows TBHC’s excellent cardiologists and clinicians to provide sophisticated preventive, diagnostic, interventional and treatment services. This expansion means Brooklyn’s two million residents now have better access to local, high-quality emergency and preventive cardiac care without needing to leave the Borough. Mount Sinai has a 19-year track record of delivering the highest level of patient safety in New York State, and this partnership enables the extension of clinical expertise in percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) to TBHC.

The partnership is led in part by Dr. Srinivas Kesanakurthy, Director of The Brooklyn Heart Center and Cardiac Catheterization Lab at TBHC. As the Program Director, Dr. Kesanakurthy, also known to his colleagues as “Dr. Srini,” is committed to the expansion of high-quality, sophisticated, cardiac care services in Brooklyn. Dr. Srini joined The Brooklyn Hospital Center in 2005, bringing with him years of medical experience and training. After graduating from India’s Rangaraya Medical College in 1990, he completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Lennox Hill Hospital in 1998 and two fellowships in Clinical and Interventional Cardiology in 2004 and 2005, respectively. He is board-certified in Internal Medicine and Cardiology.

Samin K. Sharma, MD is an interventional cardiology expert, well known for performing high risk complex coronary interventions with an extremely high success rate (>99 percent) while achieving an extremely low complication rate (<0.5 percent major complication). He has received the prestigious two star designation (significantly lower than expected mortality) numerous times by the New York State Department of Health and the Governor’s Award of Excellence in Medicine in 1996. He has served on New York State’s Cardiac Advisory Board since 2004. Under Dr. Sharma’s leadership, The Mount Sinai Hospital Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory has become one of the safest and busiest centers in New York, providing state-of-the-art cardiac and interventional care for all types of simple and complex heart patients. In addition to coronary interventions, Dr. Sharma specializes in the non-surgical treatment of mitral and aortic valve disease including Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) and MitraClip procedures (TMVR). Dr. Sharma has also built a 250-bed heart hospital (EHCC) in his native Jaipur, India to provide the best care to all patients irrespective of their financial and social status.

Since 1845, TBHC has been dedicated to providing outstanding health services, education and research to keep the people of Brooklyn and greater New York healthy. Through this collaboration with Mount Sinai Heart, exceptional cardiac care is now closer than ever for Brooklyn residents.
